An Archaeological Project

This is the second recreation of a Medieval fair at Lenton Priory. The Martinmas fair was originally run for 8 days in Nottingham and people came from all over Europe to trade and meet.

This year we not only have history in all sorts of forms for you from exhibitions on the Priory to graveyard tours as well as sword fighting, archery, woodcutting and spinning. We will also be having Medieval music and wandering minstrels. Kids can have fun building a castle with our play workers to create the hugest den in Nottingham, they can also create a shield to take home or enter our fancy dress competition. Grown ups can browse our markets selling arts, crafts, food, fine wine and sweetmeats! You can visit our apothecary, dress up to have your photo taken as a Medieval Lord or Lady or you can dip into the archaeology of Lenton Priory.

Please make sure you stay for our grand finale with Fire Spinning, breathing and amazing performances.

For fans of Robin Hood, come along and see if our favourite outlaw will be imprisoned or will the Sheriff of Nottingham pardon him? Come along and find out!

There will also be refreshments available.

The Fair is accessible by car, bus and hopefully soon by tram.

Admission is only £1 and free for children.

Martinmas 2014 feedback

"Thank you for a very enjoyable day. You should be really proud of all you achieved on the day despite the weather.  I look forward to the next one!!"

"Lovely to meet you yesterday.

Even though the start of the day had an unexpected downpour you still managed to keep order and ended up with a complete success. All at team falchion enjoyed themselves, the crowd were very friendly and we enjoyed meeting every one. We hope you enjoyed our display. Please get in touch any time if you would like us around in the future.

Hope you had a good sleep and a rest today."

"Thank you so much for having me at the fair on Saturday! I had a wonderful day all in. The rain didn't seem to put people off, and it was fun to have so many people interested in the stall, using the puppets & turning wood at the lathe. I was ready for a sit down at the end of the day though.

I hope that the rest of the fair went well, the folks I spoke to were having a good time - I could hear the battles in the distance and looked longingly over at the medieval food.

You did a great job organising it, I be happy to feed back anything that might help you with doing something similar again."

"Thank you for booking us for such a nice event. Shame about the rain early on but it really didn’t dampen the day. For us it was good to have so many interested and interesting members of the public visiting us."

"Well done on Saturday, it was a great event. Several friends came along and absolutely loved it. I'm writing to see if there are any photographs that people took that I could use in our film. I took 102 which is quite a lot but I'd love to feature other people's too. If there are any available please let me know :)"
